One of my friends who is in Canada for a few years now tells me that the Canadian companies do recognize US experience. Another friend recently finished his MBA from the US ( after he went through the whole MS, job at a top company, GC process where labor got rejected after 4 years nonsense). He moved to Canada with a job offer, so it is much easier for him. Just don't go there and think you will find something. Make sure you have a job offer and only then go there.

I am a LEGAL immigrant how has waited in the line for Green Card for 10 years. I've paid my taxes, social security, medicare and followed the law. Immigration bureaucracy and inefficiency at USCIS has meant more than 250K of Green Cards within legal limits have gone waste leading to a very long wait for legal immigrants.
Please tell me what I should do - Wait another 10 years? Go back to home country? or jump the fence?

However, as far as access to some information and benefits goes, this can be restricted to members. If you think this issue impacts you as severely as it does, why the hesitation to ensure something gets done about it, and get regular access to information and benefits without the clutter?

I guess you are talking about premium membership like wsj etc. I am not sure a free exchange of ideas can occur if we put our membership for sale by restricting access to some parts of the website. IV will lose some of its sheen and I am not sure the tradeoff in membership $ is worth it- dunno just doesn't feel right in the gut

Having been with this excellant forum for more than a year now most of us DO know if IV core endorse it or not ..If you notice , you will see my last posts stil in the same page.. meaning reponse isnt that great. IV is all of us and no need to wait from moderator for approval. If you think that a moderator or an administrator stamp is necessary, pappu can post a message on this if it helps.
IV is us all and members MUST drive campaigns. Thats how IV has always been and survived because of members taking causes

The only housing market which doesn't show any sign of correction is Mumbai, as the builders have more Dubai, 'Bhai' kind of money. Everywhere else properties have already fallen 20-30%. In gurgaon & NOIDA they are down 40% from previous year...

Please stop H1 Vs L1 discussion and do not support those who aim to divide this community on various visa types, categories, nationalities etc. Any further attempts by any member in this direction will result in ban. We would appreciate if you read the bill posted by IV and provide some analysis on its content on this thread.

I went through the text of the new bill vis-a-vis current INA and compared the old and the proposed act. Here are the findings -
Section 101 - This spells disaster for all H1Bs in consulting companies (as FT or C2C) -
by striking clause (ii) of sub-paragraph (E) of the section 212(n)(1), and then adding the new clauses under (F), they are PROHIBITING placement of H1B employees on another employer's site, period. This will affect NOT ONLY pure staffing (desi or non-desi) companies who place their W-2 H1B employees at client site, BUT ALSO big consulting companies like IBM/ACCENTURE/DELOITTE et al. No placement/leasing/outsourcing/contracting for services or otherwise at another employer, period - UNLESS a waiver is obtained, which will mean every company will need to obtain a waiver in order to do so, EFFECTIVELY ENDING ANY CONSULTING BY H1B.
Section 102 - This spells disaster for all companies who's H1B+L1 > 50% total employees
by inserting two new clauses (H) and (I) in section 212(n)(1), it prohibits H1B only or H1B preferred advertisements and prevents any company that employees more than 50 employees to submit NEW H1B/L1 application IF the total number of H1B and L1 employees exceeds 50% of its total employees. I recently did a online AR-11 change for both myself for for my wife. Saw a LUD the next day. After a week my wife got a RFE . Dont know the details yet. Iam not sure if the AR-11 triggered anything. Before that, i never had any LUD after 2007. Sitting with my fingers crossed.Mine is in NSC

One of the approaches can be for state chapters to be involved and solicit donations from local members. I liked the idea for donations from immigrants who have already obtained green cards and online ADS from google as long as we do not overdo it. I am leaning more towards funding drives. For reasons that people in the process understand better than I do, I agree that the amounts cannot be disclosed. Hence it would be nice to have offline discussions or discussions on PMs on targets between state chapter members.
I for one am not for monthly payments or memberships. That just makes for exclusive organization and we want to be more inclusive.
I also had another important question we need to ask ourselves. Do we want to solicit funding or donations or participation? They are two very different things. Participation is not limited to monetary involvement but can include time and ability (designing banners, websites, writing letters et al.) donation.

The insecurity due to my temporary status has, to put it mildly, been a road block to any major progress in my life. I know you will be overwhelmed by information posted through this site, so let me keep this brief...
1. I am pursuing an MBA from Berkeley and aspire to start a technology based firm to create products that iron out inefficiencies in various processes. However lack of permanent residency is holding me back.
2. I have almost single handedly built a product that uses complicated mathematical models that saves US corporations millions of dollars in shipping costs. The directly competing product is built by a group of professors and PhDs. I want to use my current experience along with my managerial education to positively contribute to the society.
3. My wife and I plan on buying a house but again lack of permanent residency is holding us back.
In short, I would have contributed more to the society and have grown faster professionally if I had the security of a permanent residency.
Just because I happen to be from a country with a large population, I get hit by the green card quota and have to patiently wait for about 10 years when someone from a different country with similar qualifications gets the residency in about a year. Is this fair?

Thats irony, people with 2004 PD got their GC last year when 2001 is still waiting.
in year 2007 EB-3 india got 17,000 green cards, still not enough to take care of the high demand. there are just too many people waiting, that's the fact and nobody can do anything about it...except for supporting IV for these three bills...

In your contributions page, you are asking for only $200 from each person. Please raise it to more. I don't think $200 per person will do justice for the kind of work that is ahead of us. If Comprehensive Immigration Reform fails, we will need even more lobbyist time to introduce it in other bills and then get it through the House.
I just sent $500 by bill pay and that is only a fraction of the benefit if I were to get my GC sooner.
